We hired a tour guide to take us around in Tangier and we are very glad we did. He was very knowledgeable about the area, knew so many people as we walked around and had set up some fun little 'touristy' things to get to see while in Morocco. One of them being the snake charmer. He pulled out a black cobra and played with him for a few minutes while another guy beat a drum and then he pulled out a different snake, little green snake, that we all got to touch and hold. It was super canned and touristy but it was fun to say we got to see a snake charmer.
The above picture is where we stopped to have lunch, shrimp, kebab and a roasted chicken... YUM! We were so happy to finally see a STOP sign in a foreign language. Everywhere else we have traveled they have always still been in English.
Driving around we got to see the extreme difference in economy and living style. We saw the extreme poor of the city all the way up to the extreme rich of the country (or other countries who have summer homes here). The above picture is the gate of one of the summer homes of the king of Saudi Arabia. The below picture is from the high class area looking back into the Kasbah. Quite a contrast for sure!
