Qalat al Bahrain ...

Wow, what a completely gorgeous place!  We headed to the Bahrain Fort yesterday and it was amazingly beautiful.  We enjoyed it so much we may even go back again soon!  This fort is located on the Arabian Peninsula and has been occupied for more than 4000 years.  This was the capital of the Dilmun civilization and a huge trade route for many, including the Kings of Babylon and China.  We were there at the prefect time of the evening to see guys riding their Arabian horses around, people were walking around getting exercise and then the sun started to set and the site became even more beautiful!  I truly felt blessed to be in a Middle Eastern country while I was here.  It is so different from what we saw in Italy, but no less impressive and beautiful.  We got to hear the call to prayer while we were there and it was like surround sound, there were several mosques in the area apparently so we could here 3 or 4 of them happening at the same time and it was so neat!

This photographer was enthralled by Owen and Lydia!  He was just shooting tons of pictures of them playing in the dirt and along the columns.  It was funny!  Everyone here is actually very enthralled by Owen.  They want him to say Hi to them, or hug him or have him do anything in their direction!  It is funny to us, but Owen doesn't enjoy the TONS of attention he gets and has gotten pretty shy around it all.  We have gotten him to actually wave to them at least, but that is as far as it has gone so far :).

I love the above picture as it shows the old city of Bahrain with the new city of Bahrain...perfectly accentuating each other.
