La Rabida #3 ....

While I completely enjoyed seeing the life sized replicas of the boats, I think my favorite spot was the monetary where he studied, and revealed his plans and dreams to set sail.  It was actually quite a sacred spot.  We were able to get hand held tour guides that shared lots of very interesting information about the different rooms and such.  Like where they would eat, where Christopher Columbus and his crew prayed before they left on their voyage, where Christopher Columbus and the monks tried to figured out how they would get their funding and the Queen and King to back them.  It was all very interesting.  It was a lot bigger monastery than we thought from the outside.  Even the kids seemed to enjoy listening to the information.  The one room upstairs had a bunch of flags with a little bit of dirt from each of the countries of the flags displayed.  It was quite interesting to see the differences in the soils.  All in all, certainly worth the drive to experience this cool place of history!
