We needed one more time in downtown Catania to see a few extra sites, eat some Sicilian food and get some souvenirs. We headed down there yesterday. After finding a free parking spot *YEA* we walked around quite a bit of the city. We got to see some of their beautiful churches and the old monastery that is now used for the University of Catania. We had lunch on a little table by the elephant statue, enjoying the sun! The meal was made complete with the best gelato we have had since arriving in Sicily. It was amazing. We got vanilla, strawberry and I got a biscotto type one (like a cookie). It was divine! How lucky are we that we got to sit in the sun, eat amazing gelato all while in Italy. We are truly blessed! After finding all the right souvenirs (hopefully), we were all exhausted and ready to head to our Orange Park home.
The above picture is a beautiful depiction of the nativity scene. It was made out of ceramic and painted. I am continually amazed at the talent these artists have for doing these types of things. The bottom picture is the church that is off the monastery and it was just a ginormous building. It was never completed in its day, but what was done is quite grand.

So, can you find a way to bring some of that gelato home for us to try? I'm drooling!
