Jake is lucky enough to have vacation time saved up so we decided before we came home from Italy to take a tour of Northern Italy and then head on into Germany (the plans changed multiple times). BUT, now instead of flying home, we will be flying to the Kingdom of Bahrain for 6 weeks additional time. Pretty exciting. We still had a vacation to enjoy though! The vacation had started off amazing with Venice, Verona, Milan and then we headed to Germany. How lucky are we?
We have to drive through Austria to get there and they require a special sticker in your car to drive there, so we stopped at this Austrian rest stop to get it. Nicest rest stop I have ever been in. There was still snow on the ground though, so quite cold!
It was very crazy to watch the landscape and housing change even into Northern Italy who has a lot of German influence. It was beautiful! Tried to capture a few pictures of the difference, but they didn't turn out real well. Oh well! The highlight of this drive was that we got pulled over by some German police! They were very polite and asked us if we spoke German to which we kind of laughed and said no, so he changed to speaking English. He just asked us if our car was a rental car and if we were there for holiday and we said yes to both...and he said "Okay, enjoy your holiday!". Whew, that was a close call. I know my heart was pumping, I'm sure Jake's was beating out of his chest. We still aren't sure why they pulled us over, it may be because of our French plates, it may be because Jake is part Italian and was still driving that way ;), or it may be because of our GPS that has warnings on it of the speed which apparently is illegal in Germany. We really aren't sure, but we sure are glad it turned out the way it did instead of us getting a ticket or having to go to German jail or something!

How funny! I would have been scared, too! It's bad enough in your own language/culture, but somewhere completely foreign would be something different!
