On our way to Paestum, off to the side we saw what appeared to be a dairy farm. Jake saw it and said, those look like buffalo. So I pulled up my trusty 3G network *BEST choice ever to pay for that while on a trip to Europe* and found a local farm we could go look at. We have been burned once before by the Trip Advisor app taking us to a place that was NOT where it said it was, but we thought we'd try once again. We really didn't have much to lose, we would just get to drive through some of Italy's countryside...which is not a big deal at all! So, we plugged the address into the GPS and drove. HOORAY! We found what we were looking for. It was probably one of the most fun sites we have hit, I know silly, right? I guess our Idaho roots go way deep. The farm was amazingly clean and the people were super friendly. We weren't there during regular tourist times but because we were so interested in looking at the water buffalo, the worker let us go up on the overlook to see around. There were probably 300+ cows and a few bulls mingled in there too. It was neat to watch the cows scratch/massage their backs on these little roller things, line up to get milked and to watch the worker hook up the cow to be milked. It was all a very neat and efficient process. Not very often do you ever get to see a water buffalo, let alone watch it get milked!
They turn all of the their milk into products right there at the farm and you could see through a huge window where they process the milk into cheese and gelato and yogurt. We didn't get to see them actually doing it while we were there but it was neat to see their equipment. We all enjoyed the best gelato we have had since coming to Italy here. It was very creamy and yummy. We bought some yogurt to eat when we got home and it was quite a bit different of a taste. Who knew that water buffalo could be milked and produced such yummy stuff! What a fun little 'oops' trip we had. I think the kids will probably remember and like this little trip the best out of all of Naples! I know Jake and I enjoyed it.
